THE SCAF COUNCIL PROMOTES EARTH HOUR

About Earth Hour -
Saturday, March 29, 8-9 pM EST!
SCAF is organizing New Yorkers to participate in Earth Hour on Saturday, March 29, from 8:00-9:00 pm EST. Earth Hour is a global event to get families, stores and offices to turn off their lights for one hour. If everyone does this, we can prove that small actions make a big difference (like the Penny Harvest!)

If all Penny Harvest students participate, we can stop 50,333 pounds of CO2 (carbon dioxide) from going into the air and adding to the greenhouse gases, making the earth hotter! That is the equivalent of taking 60,000 cars off of the street for 1 hour.

please join us!
  1. Read how to get students in your school involved. Download instructions, sign-up sheets, and posters to advertise.
  2. Register for Earth Hour and set a goal! The top scoring schools will be featured on the Common Cents Penny Harvest website and in local papers.
  3. Learn more about Earth Hour.

More Info on SCAF
The SCAF Council, also known as the Student Community Action Fund Council, is a program within Common Cents that consists of 20 high school students from New York City that take action in their community (that’s a few of us being goofy in the picture below). Each year, we select a global issue to focus on and develop service projects to provide aid as well as spread awareness throughout our schools and neighborhoods.

SCAF cares about Climate Change because we feel passionate about the environment and our mother Earth. We all share the Earth, so it's our responsibility to take care of it and create a better place for future generations to live. Global warming is getting worse, so we are changing the way we live to make sure it doesn't get worse. By learning more and teaching others what we have learned, we can make positive changes in our society. The world as we know it today may not be the world we know in our future. Climate change affects us all.

We have inherited the Earth. If we don’t take action now, our livelihood will be in danger. We as youth can come together and make a difference in the world.
